St. Lucia day & tip#2

13th of December Sweden celebrates the Saint Lucia’s Day.  In churches and houses all over the country musical ceremonies take place where a girl is elected to portray Lucia. Wearing a white gown with a red sash and a crown of candles on her head, she walks at the head of a procession of women, each holding a candle and singing. The candles symbolize the fire that refused to take St. Lucia’s life when she was sentenced to be burned.

My classmates and I visited such ceremony in Katarina kyrkan (church) on Tuesday and enjoyed a beautiful singing of a choir (photo on the left). However I was already acquainted with the ceremony as I was a member of the Swedish choir in St. Petersburg and took part in St. Lucia day celebration in 2008. You can see me in a white gown at the picture on the right side:

Besides that, we have had just an incredible amount of work recently. Right now we are working on the group project of 7000 words, take-home exam of 1600 words + final assignment of 6000 words. You can see my wonderful group on the photo below 🙂

So here is a tip # 2: be prepared to work really hard here!

Have a nice weekend,

Elena
